Throughout my career I’ve been involved in many aspects of the 2D graphics production which include concepts, textures, backgrounds, level design, interface and marketing elements.
I did start on 3D modelling, but Autodesk on Silicon Graphics machines were not that user friendly so I stayed in the 2D camp. Today, I know my way around in 3ds Max, but I would love to start modelling again, since 3D programs have evolved and are easier to use today. 
 
When the 2D and 3D worlds meet, I find it super satisfying when the workflow supports quick  export and visuals (textures) are immediately shown on the 3D model. 
Below are some of the graphic elements used for the ship scene in the Augmented Reality game The Little Mermaid.
