Before the internet really started to enter the televisions, it was up to the weak Set-Top TV-boxes to provide additional entertainment. I helped produce some 35 TV-games at NDS. Typically 3 productions at the same time. Interesting tidbit; we were told that these types of games were quite popular among the housewives in the UK.
The crazy size limit for the entire game including sound was around 500K! So it was a return to pixel-like graphics and a fun challenge to see how cool you could make it within the limits. The tileset for American Dragon (see below) is great example of that.
